Over Christmas break I picked up the movie “Primer” after a recommendation from my brother, Zack. It is a great indie film, made on a $7,000.00 budget. Shane Curuth is an amazing story teller and has managed to actually make a very original film. One of my all-time favorite films is “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. This film is reminiscent of “Eternal Sunshine” in it’s originality and character development. Don’t expect to fully understand either film in one viewing. “Primer” actually requires thinking. It does not spell out every single detail of the plot through poor diologue like, “I guess I am just feeling vulnerable because my husband has walked out on me and father left us when I was young”. There are vital plot details that are not verbalized or emphazsized in any way. If you appreciate good stories and orginality, you will love Primer. If you apprecaite “The Lake House” and “Gigli”, you will hate it.
