McGee vs. McGuire
This week’s Sacred vs. Secular examines the lives of two pre-teen blonds with cartoon counterparts. On the sacred side we have McGee and Me. A show that features Nick, a young suburban boy who faces moral quandary’s concerning honesty and integrity. Whenever Nick finds himself in a moral dilemma out comes McGee, his cartoon conscious. Nick often disregards McGee’s advice and is forced to learn morality the hard way.
On the secular side we have Lizzie McGuire, a self-conscious middle schooler who deals with the issues every normal teenager faces. McGuire’s thoughts are are played out by her cartoon “twin” barring the same name.
You guys know what to do. Vote for the “Mc-G” that has most affected you. Sacred or Secular? The choice is yours!
Lizzie McGuire, McGee and Me

WOW.
This one is tough…. pick your poison…
You’re proving me wrong too early, Rippy.
I’m gonna go with nostalgia… McGee.
Because it’d be more fun to watch those videos and make fun of them, than McGuire… I would end up vomiting more than laughing if i tried that with the latter…
McG’s i would rather enjoy than either include:
Rose McGowan
McGruff the Crime Dog
Juno MacGuff (from the movie)
I’d have to say secular on this one as well, though I’ve never see the Lizzie McGuire show you speak of. I’ve always had a beef with ole McGee. It started in children’s church at Evangel. Every Sunday, I longed to watch the weekly installment of the Gospel Bill show. Only, some weeks I’d have my attention directed to the big screen to see a goofy, Christian Ricky Schroeder look alike traipsing through the neighborhood with his imaginary friend. Let’s just say I didn’t win the “queit seat prize” that week.
I am the way I am today because of this.
hmmm… this is a toughy. i think i’m gonna have to go with mcgee though.
and in other news, when are you & your wife gonna take a mctrip back to where the fun’s at?!
While I tend to not favor things strictly for nostalgia’s sake, I am definitely going to have to go with the old classic that represents good morality, McGee and me. Not the teeny-bopper, sexually-promicuous cartoon character of inappropriate twelve-year old behovior. Unlike Oswald, I was pleased with any video opportunity in Children’s Church as it provided the cover of darkness for the various activities I often found more intruiging than the elusive “Quiet Seat Prize.”
I’m really enjoying all of these comments. I too enjoyed any video in children’s church. It always seemed like they defaulted to a video when they finished early and “big church” wasn’t out yet.
As for a trip to Lakeland, I’m going to have to tell the truth. Probably not gonna’ happen. I also have to dispute that the Lakeland is “where the fun’s at”.
“where the fun’s at” was a horrible statement, i agree.
what i truly meant in my heart of hearts… “where the funnest people on earth reside”.
McGee and Me all the way.
Seriously, that and Gospel Bill ruled.
I mean, McGee didn’t have his own awesome western-themed summer camp and all, but still, he owns Lizzie McGuire any day of the week.
Plus, the kid has the awesome “Zack Morris from the ‘Good Morning Miss Bliss’ days” look going for him, which is the very definition of 1980′s awesomeness.

Speaking of children’s church, do you guys remember Gerbert?? You should.

Funny you should mention Gerbert…I was just cooking up a sacred vs. secular with him vs…..check back soon.
Oh wow,
DEFINITELY McGee and me!!
I grew up on that show…every Saturday morning was devoted to it :]
I say Lizzie. She has turned out to be better in the long run. She had a cd or 2 out and has been in a few movies. Has anyone on the cast of McGee & ME done anything since those cheap animations left the Christian small screen?
I have no opinion here as I am to OLD to have viewed either of these shows…however as a Christian school teacher in the 90′s I did often revert to the McGee Video tapes (that’s right good old VHS tapes) when the lesson plans were thin!!!
I did like the Lizzie McGuire girl in Cheaper by the Dozen though!!!
A McTrip to Palatka seems like a good idea to me!!! Sorry Lakeland people!!!
How about someone from Palatka actually makes a trip to see our McHouse?
Oh snap!
Man, i totally forgot about Mcgee and Me until i saw that pic!!
Well, I know for a fact that my husband had a Mccrush on Lizzy, though he swears he never told me that. I love both shows! But, I watched a rerun of Lizzy McGuire the other day, and I was cracking up. I think that little brother is so funny, and the parents too, though I’m not too sure if they try to be. If I were 12, I’d definitely have a lil crush on ‘ole Gordo. All-in-all, I guess I’d have to vote for Lizzy. McGee and me never made a huge impression on me like The Gospel Bill show, which I still quote lines from: Dirty Girdy: “I want Butter…15 pounds of butter!” And “A heaven to gain and a hell to shun, a heaven to gain and a hell to shun!” I watched that show every morning before school. Good versus, Rippy!
4 Him versus Boyz II Men?
DC Talk versus New Kids on the Block? They both tried to “reinvent” themselves as more grungie styles – New Kids became “NKOTB” and DCTalk put out “Jesus Freak” and all that.
Gospel Bill versus Hey Dude (Hey Dude for the win)
You already did Carmen versus Rocky.
Salute Your Shorts versus ANYTHING (Note, Salute Your Shorts was awesome and would win)
Actually, those are just retro picks. I’ve been obsessed with “retro” stuff lately.
Note, I need this shirt:

I gotta hand it to you on this one, Jordan. I didn’t see it coming. I admire the creativity. All I could come up with was DaVicni Code vs. Omega Code, and while I’m sure that would spark a great deal of heated debate, it lacks the depth of the McGuire vs. McGee. I have to go with McGee…the cool little maze/mousetrap invention in his room blows my mind to this day. I’m having the urge to drive to the ECA library at this moment and check out the entire McGee and Me collection. (Marathon anyone??? My place is open.)
I still have DC Talk memorized and stored in the back recesses of my brain.
Shaun,
I do too. Those lyrics are seared into my brain. They say you remember the music you listen to in high school and college for the rest of your life!!
I’ve got Nu Thang and Free at Last completely memorized…plus some of Jesus Freak!!
Toby mac, and the mac is back no slack
On a dc track thats jacked, beyond comprehension
I believe that I failed to mention that
Theres a lack of recognition
When it comes to his position
Cause if Christ cant be crossed over,
Then Ill keep my beat up nova
—
Back in place, and Im all up in your face
With a rhyme that I embrace, like a mother to her child
I’m kickin’ it Jesus style
To the ones that think they heard
I did use the ‘J’ word
Cause I ain’t too soft to say it
Even if dj’s don’t play it
LOVE IT!! McGee and Me for sure!
How many of you are bold enough to admit that you rapped the dc talk lyrics that Jordan posted. I will admit that I did.
Heck yes I did, Kristin! I have that one memorized too! How ’bout this one:
“I don’t want it,
I don’t want it, want it,
I don’t want your sex for now!” ?
Wait, how did we digress to this point?
McGee and Me for sure…
